Yaoi and Yuri are subgenres of the Shoujo genre and although some men enjoy them, they are generally written for women, by women.



Yaoi describes anime focused toward homosexual relationships between men. It is now often referred to as Boy’s Love, but does not necessarily imply content of a sexual nature.











Yuri is the Japanese term for animations based on lesbian themes. As with yaoi, yuri is commonly referred to as Girls’ Love. (Much of yuri anime produced in Japan rarely sees foreign shores.) There is a common misconception that yuri is any lesbian content in anime or manga, which is untrue: yuri is created with the female audience in mind. What many men call yuri is in fact lesbian hentai.

Titles Include:
Ai no Kusabi: VERY angsty sci. fi. yaoi anime OVA and novel. The two main characters are "mongrel" Riki from the slums and the "Blondie" Iason Mink, with one of the highest status in society who takes Riki as a "pet" (aka sexual slave). Has pretty graphic sex.

Boku no Sexual Harrassment: A young employee climbs the business ladder with sexual favors. PWP It's seriously all sex with next to no plot.

Gravitation: Rising rock star Shindou Shuichi falls in love with the cold-hearted novelist, Eiri Yuki. He tries to beicome a successful band with his friend, Nakano Hiro, and his boss's cousin, Fujisaki Suguru, while trying to win Yuki's heart. But it turns out that his boss, who is married to Yuki's sister, loves (*cough* obsessed about *cough*) Yuki. Things become even more complicated when his idol, famous singer Sakuma Ryuichi, comes into his life, but it turns out Ryuichi has something like MPD! Very humorous. It can be VERY sappy at times and Shuichi seems to cry at least once per episode, but it's still a nice story. The anime has nothing beyond kissing, though the manga is a bit more graphic. The author, Maki Murakami, also published a doujinshi (fan-comic) called Gravitation Remix, which is basically sex scenes.
